HISTORIA:
Ernest August Vom Hofe fue un ayudante de Hermann Gerlich en Danzig durante los años 1920. Luego se traslada a Leipzig con Wilhelm Brenneke. A principos de la década de 1930 funda en Berlín la firma HOFMANN Waffen und Munition (formada por HOFe y Richard SchienMMAN) para construir sus propios cartuchos de alta velocidad y fusiles -basados en acciones Mauser-. En 1935 Schiemmann abandona la sociedad, que pasa a llamarse “vom Hofe Waffen und Munition”.
Este cartucho en concreto, es el resultado de la experimentación sobre el .404 Jeffery que llevaban a cabo Brenneke, Vom Hoffe y quizás Gehman. Este último finalizó las experiencias y comercializó el cartucho durante una temporada. Al parecer no tuvo demasiado éxito y desapareció del mercado. Se reemprendió la fabricación por IWK y luego Norma y Wolfgang Remy.
